Carers at Cancelled Culture

2.30pm - 4.30pm, Sunday 1 December 2024. Carers at ‘Cancelled Culture: a weekend of platforming silenced voices’ Spore Initiative, Berlin.

Child-friendly, experimental space for carers looking for ways to attend particpatory and discursive events with their children.
To think together about ways to organise a community of engagement, care and exchange. https://spore-initiative.org/en/programming/participate/cancelled-culture

‘I've arranged a bit of an experiment with Spore Initiative in Berlin this Sunday for their Cancelled Culture: a weekend platforming silenced voices.

I want to engage with these critical conversations and events.

I often find it difficult due to the necessary nature of their days and times, which coincide with when I enjoy spending time with my daughter after our week of work and school respectively.

I'm hoping to connect with others who also wish to engage with these discursive and participatory events in a way that might include children - if not directly then where children can be safely in the vicinity.

This Sunday I'll be hosting a space for 2 hours where children aged between 6-10 years can be in the Library at Spore.

The timing enables their parent / carer to listen to Candice Breitz and Nicolás Jaar in conversation with Hanno Hauenstein in the building.

I’ll be in the room where there will be drawing materials, books, and puzzles for the children’s self-play.

Rather than a creche or childcare facility it's a way to think about how parallel experiences could run.

So I'll miss the conversation this weekend but my hope is to connect with others open to the idea of future collective support for critical dialogues who might want to think together what that could look like.

If this may be of interest - this weekend or in future - do come say hello on Sunday 2.30pm - 4.30pm or message me :)’
